The Name Project seeks to understand how our names shape our character and the role it plays in our identity.
Some reflect our cultural backgrounds.
Others are indicative of our parents’ values, interest and ideologies.
This week's Name Project interview is the last of four shot in SE Asia. Pixie who was born Suparkorn, talks about how he came up with his nickname and other nickname trends in Thailand, including the one common amongst the women of his mother's generation; "Pussy." "My real nickname is not Pixie, it's Pik. I was in America once and at that time I told everyone about my name, my name is Pik and no one could remember...so I'm thinking about the band that I like, the Pixies it sounds like my name. So I called myself Pixie and everyone could remember it at the first time."
We all have a name that subsequently has a name story. Here is Pixie's name story.
